For some time American people were attacked with pornography material, but nobody could track impudent spammers. Spam, promoting porno sites offended more than 6 million USA people for more than 4 years and only recently two men has been caught and found guilty of international spam campaign.

It was so hard to track these two smart cheaters, James Schaffler and Jeffrey Kilbride because they used a variety of tricks to hide their location and identity. One of the most confusing details was that the spam appeared to be non-USA origin. As the research was made, it came out that spammers logged-in remotely to Amsterdam servers, used bank accounts in Mauritius and the Isle of Man. This clever step was the main difficulty in finding criminals.

James Schaffler from Arizona and Jeffrey Kilbride from California, both 41-years-old gained $2 million using conspiracy, fraud, money laundering and, of course, spam. The spam operation was established in 2003 and worked properly for more than 4 years. The main source of money was porn sites commissions provided from sites operators. The traffic generated from emails was very useful for both sides, therefore criminal activity was used.

The sentence that these two men have to face is up to five years in prison for each spam act and obscenity offense. In addition they’ll have to pay up to $500,000 fine and face up to 20 years in prison for money laundering. Sentence is scheduled for 24 September.

This is not the first case of spammers’ conviction. But it definitely had the biggest impact on American people. The usual contents of spam are some products or financial advertisement, this was the case of explicit adult material and it lasted for a long time. Moreover, James Shaffler and Jeffrey Kilbride used other illegal activities, such as money laundering, conspiracy and fraud. Therefore they are considered to be the most serious internet spammers of these days.
